Principal Investigator


Oluwaseyi Balogun received the B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and the M.S. and Ph.D degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University in 2003 and 2006, respectively. He worked as a Postdoctoral Associate with Professor James Spicer at The Johns Hopkins University and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory from 2006 to 2007. He also worked as a Postdoctorate Associate with Professor Sridhar Krishnaswamy at Northwstern University from 2007 to 2008. He joined the faculty in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern University in September 2008.  His group pursues interdisciplinary research in optical sensing, laser-material interaction, and elastic wave propagation, which have applications in  the areas of nondestructive materials characterization, biosensing, and design of complex materials with novel dynamic properties.

Xiang received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and Acoustics from the Nanjing University, China. His research is focused on exploring near-field optics to enable picosecond ultrasonic microscopy at the nanoscale.

Li Zhang received the B.S. and M.Sc  degrees in Civil Engineering from Beijing University of Technology and Texas A&M University. His research is focused on exploring pulsed laser based methods to study the dynamics of blister delamination in soft and stiff films.
